If you would like to have a Secure Client Portal, please email us at info@jcarrcpa.com and provide the email address you want to use with the portal.
When you upload documents to the portal, please open your client folder and place your documents in the "Client Uploaded Documents" folder. Documents must be uploaded as PDF files. Please do NOT combine all of your tax documents into one file.
If you choose to receive your completed tax return via the portal, you will receive an email notification when it is available with detailed instructions; the return will be found in the "Firm Uploaded Documents" folder. Signed tax documents should be placed in "Client Uploaded Documents."
Documents are only retained in the portal for the current calendar year. Be sure to download any files you wish to save for your records.
Creating PDF Files With a Smart Phone:
For any scanning, make sure the document is flat and properly lit to avoid shadows and highlights that aren't readable.
Name your PDFs according to the document type (Engagement Letter, Client Questionnaire, W2, 1099 INT, Brokerage, 1098 MTG...).
For identity protection, make sure any documents containing social security numbers are saved securely or properly deleted.
Social Security Numbers should never be emailed.
Scanning suggestions for Android phones:
Download the Google Drive app and find scanning instructions here: Scan to PDF with Google Drive
Some newer phones can use the camera to scan. This option may be limited to single page documents.
Scanning suggestions for iPhones:
Scan using the Apple Notes app, following the directions here: How to Scan Documents on your iPhone
Once scanned, tap the name above the document and select Rename to name the document according to it's type.
You can then select the camera icon to scan the next document into the Note.
Tap a document to open it and save to Google Drive, Adobe or Files for uploading to the portal.
Be sure to delete any tax documents off your phone if they can't be stored securely.
